Ik ga nu aan mijn lijstje beginnen, zoals elk jaar zitten er vooral moderne nummers in en is ie weer voor de helft anders dan het jaar ervoor. Ook ben ik er een dag later waarschijnlijk alweer ontevreden mee.

1. Burial - Shell of Light

Nu is zijn de twee albums die Burial tot nu toe heeft gemaakt bij uitstek albums om in zijn geheel te luisteren, de tracks zijn meestal niet van dien aard dat je een bepaald nummer de hele tijd op repeat zet. Toch heb ik een nummer van hem gekozen om op nummer 1 te zetten. Dat komt omdat, naast dat het een fantastisch nummer is binnen het album, mijn favoriete stuk muziek hierop staat. Dat is namelijk de laatste anderhalve minuut van dit nummer. Het is een stuk zonder beats, het is geen gitaarsolo, maar het is een geniaal gewarpte vocale sample van een nummer van Ernie Halter, Whisper. Ik denk dat hij in de twee regels die mij zo ontzettend raken twee verschillende samples gebruikt, want de exacte lyrics hoor ik niet terug in het nummer van Halter.

De tekst zoals ik hem hoor is:

"God can you please try and find me, I wasn't sure we could be friends."

Daarnaast vind ik de rest van het nummer natuurlijk ook fantastisch, die heerlijke donkere sfeer die in dat album zit, zit ook hier weer in. En ook al is de muziek gemaakt met computers, en heb je geen gigantische uithalen of huilende zangers of zangeressen, zit in dit nummer voor mij zoveel emotie, zoveel rauwe passie dat ik er nooit genoeg van krijg.

Nu doet Burial altijd al fantastische dingen met stemmen en weet hij ze telkens een nieuwe betekenis mee te geven, en een ziel er in te stoppen die je niet voor mogelijk houdt als je bedenkt dat hij die teksten niet heeft geschreven en als je bedenkt hoe de stemmen eerst hebben geklonken, maar dit gaat mij elke keer door merg en been, en daarom is het mijn favoriete nummer. Punt.

Aantal aardige lijstjes, laatste drie kan ik me zeer wisselend in vinden, briljante nummers afgewisseld met zozo. Maar goed, ik hou dan ook niet van Radiohead, Interpol e.d. Mooi lijstje van Sanchez. overigens, met ELO:)

Wat is nou eigenlijk de officiÃ«le naam van dit nummer? Ik weet dat Freebird zeer gangbaar is, maar is Free Bird niet de officiÃ«le titel? Weet niet hoe nauw het zit met de verwerking van de lijstjes?

Tof lijstje Vreev, gelukkig nog iemand die onderschatte dingen als Anathema en Lamb apprecieert.

Lamb zou er bij mij waarschijnlijk ook wel 2 keer in voorkomen... Ware het niet dat ik geen lijstje post, want lui en hij maakt toch nul komma nul verschil!
